Donations

Appeal letter for volunteers and contributions

Donating to a political candidate, regardless of how effective it is as a strategy is always a difficult activity to sell to animal people.

In truth, I prefer animal activists volunteering to walk a precinct or spend some time on the phones to help a candidate. I prefer they save their money for spaying and neutering, feeding and housing foster dogs and cats, feeding ferals or donating to animal rescue organizations.

But many people don't have the time to volunteer for candidates because they are working and have pets or families to care for. This is completely understandable, but these individuals should then have resources to give $25 to $50 to compensate for the little they have in the way of time.

To neither be willing to donate, nor volunteer time means you are unwilling to make any sacrifice to try to change the vicious community policies that all of us rescuers and animal sympathizers are the victims of. It is hard to sympathize with people who won't take the time to help themselves improve their situation. It is what the opposition counts on, it is what victimizes the animals and makes us so weak as an interest group.

I hope you will look deep into the eyes of your pets or your rescues and then into your own soul before you pass up this opportunity to help the abandoned pets of this city.

Donating can be done in one of two ways:

1. The Animal Legislative Action Network has already given the maximum contribution allowed by law to each of our endorsed candidates. If you send a check to " ALAN PAC", this will go into our bank account to replenish our reserves. Our accounts are managed by Campaign Finance and monies that leave that account are used for political contributions only. We use none of these funds for the administration of the Animal Legislative Action Network whose overhead is paid by a private donor. If you wish to send a check directly to ALAN for the purpose of supporting one of our animal friendly candidates, the address is:

ALAN PAC, c/o Campaign Finance
900 Wilshire Blvd. Suite #805
Los Angeles, CA 90017

2. If you wish to write a check directly to the candidate of your choice (list of our endorsements to follow) you write a check to the candidate i.e. "Bob Smith", then make out the check to "Bob Smith for City Council" and then send it along to us.

Animal Legislative Action Network
2379 Panorama Terrace
Los Angeles, CA 90039

We will "bundle" all checks received (hold them until we get a few) and then send them together with a letter alerting the candidate that these donations come from the Humane and Animal Advocacy Community here in Los Angeles. Please be aware that there are filing requirements for major donors (a major donor gives more than $500 to one or more candidates). If you choose to send a check directly to the office of a candidate, please indicate in a note or on the check, that your donation is on behalf of the interests of the Humane or Animal Advocacy community here in Los Angeles.
