Electing for
Animals
Voting
for candidates who are most supportive of animal issues is
one of the easiest and most important things that you can do all year
for the
animals.
Between
now and the election there are several
things that you can do to help the animals.
1)
Be sure you register or are registered to
vote.
HOW?
Register on-line at : www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm
2) Be
sure to apply for an absentee ballot.
HOW?
a)You can print an
application for an
absentee ballot by going to the website: www.ss.ca.gov.
b) When
the home page pops up you place your cursor (do not click!) on the
second
column: Elections
and voter
information.
c)
This will give you a drop down menu and you click on: Absentee
voting
d) This
will give you a page with several underlined topics. Click on: Apply
for absentee voting.
e) This
will give you a page where you can click on your language preference.
<>
f)
This will bring up a screen: "Required
format for a statewide absentee ballot application" Print
this. It will be two pages and include and example of the information
that will be required to place on the envelope.
>
g)
Fill out the APPLICATION FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT
h) In the first line, be sure to fill in the
election date: Nov 7, 2006
i) On the second line, be sure to fill in
the date: October 31, 2006. That is the date that the election
officials must receive your absentee ballot application (not
the date your application for an absentee ballot is post marked).
<>
j)
You will not receive an absentee ballot unless you have registered
first.
>
It
seems silly to mention this, but sending in an
application for an absentee ballot is not voting. You still
must make
sure you receive a vote by mail ballot, that you fill it
out and
mail it in. If you receive a vote by mail ballot but
procrastinate and
don't mail it in soon enough, you can hand deliver it to your
polling place on
election
day (Nov 7, 2006).
k) You must address the envelope with your
absentee or vote by
mail application to the county official responsible
for elections. This depends on which county you live in.
Here are the county officials addreses for LA,
Orange, San Diego and Ventura Counties:
Los Angeles County: Conny
Mc Cormack
Registrar-Recorder/County
Clerk
P.O.
Box 1024
Norwalk,
CA 90651-1024
Orange
County: Neal Kelley, Registrar of Voters
P.O. Box 11298 Santa Ana,
CA 92711
Ventura
County: Phil Schmidt
County
Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters
899
So. Victoria Ave. L-1200 Ventura
CA
93009-1200
If you
live in another county, you can find the address of the
office in charge of voter information at: www.ss.ca.gov.
You
access the Elections and voter
information page as described above and
click on county
elections office and there will be a list
of the
addresses by county.
ALAN
can provide the information but we can not do the work
for you. We can tell
the candidates
that our issues are important to Californians but there is only one way
to show
them. Animal advocates are known for their passion. ALAN
asks you to
be known for your willingness to use the
political tools at our disposal. We are here to answer any
questions you
may have and to help you utilize your time most effectively to elect
animal
friendly candidates.
