Animal Legislative Action Network

Election Alert

Paul Krekorian for the 43rd California Assembly District

(Glendale Burbank)

Paul’s stand on Animal Issues:

1. Dog fighting and cock fighting.

I would support specialized enforcement officers under the Attorney General to investigate and prosecute violations of animal welfare laws.”

2. Elephants

“state law should prevent importation of elephants unless they are provided adequate habitat, and minimal requirements should include a specified acreage per elephant as well as comfort elements such as shade, a cooling pool, trees, and activites.”

3. The use of dogs to hunt Bears and Bobcats.

“Simply this:  it should be banned.”

4. Farmed Animals

“I’ve fought against factory farming as a lawyer, and I will continue to do so as a legislator.”

5. Pound Seizure

“It is abhorrant and should be banned.”

6.  Companion Animal Overpopulation

“(i) holding pet owners accountable for their pets by requiring spaying/neutering and permanently identifying pets (e.g., with a program like microchipping or something similar); (ii) increasing license fees for selling dogs and cats in pet stores, to make such sales economically less desirable and to encourage adoption; (iii) requiring greater public disclosure of the source of animals sold in pet shops, and regulating the conditions relating to such sources (i.e., attacking the “puppy mill”); and (iv) facilitating adoption of empounded animals”

7. Feral Cats

“I agree with the idea of trap/neuter/release [TNR] for feral cats, and would be supportive of assistance for such programs.”

8. “No-Kill”

“The use of multiple approaches to encourage adoption, to fund care facilities, and to build government/private partnerships so that all potentially adoptable animals are in fact adopted, and ensuring that no animal is killed other than to alleviate the suffering of a severely sick or injured animal.”

Paul would be a great asset in our efforts to create an Animal Caucus in Sacramento.  We have lost many key pro-animal votes.  If Paul loses it will tie our hands in opposing the interests that wish to exploit animals.  He is in a close race.  It may depend on your help.
